One of the biggest automobile launches of the year took place this month. Thus the All-New Mahindra Thar was launched with much fan fair on the 2nd of October 2020. The popular off-roader has been omnipresent in India since it first arrived way back in 2010. Due for an update since a very long time, the 2020 Mahindra Thar is refreshing in design and offers a new set of powertrain options. Since its launch earlier this month, the homegrown manufacturer claims to have recieved overwhelming orders with expected deliveries to be delayed a bit considering a strong demand. As we await the presence of the new SUV on the Indian road, we have DC Design’s Thar specific body kit to admire and look forward to. The Indian design firm is quite renowned for customizing cars in their own attractive and stylish way.

Talking about the Mahindra Thar modifications carried out by DC designs, the SUV here looks very different to the stock version. The DC design body kit features a smaller grille in comparsion to the original one. The new grille is smaller in size but retains the vertical slats design as before. Moving on to the headlamps, the retro-styled circular lights give way to a pair of sleek looking ones albeit a bit smaller in size. A revamped bumper, new air vents and a skid plate placed at the bottom of the front profile are some of the other striking modification done to the SUV. As the vehicle is more off-road focussed, the design firm has substantially increased its ground clearance. As a result, it rides on a new set of alloy wheels which are larger in size. In order to make it look rugged from the sides, there are flared wheel arches with large amount of plastic cladding on them. Towards the rear, it provides a new spare wheel, a bigger bumper, horizontally stacked tail lights which is a departure from the stock 2020 Mahindra Thar

There is no information whether or not DC will modify the powertrain. Though what we can tell you is that the original New Generation Mahindra Thar comes with two engine options. The first is a 2.0-litre mStallion petrol engine that delivers a maximum power output of 150 bhp with 350 Nm torque. While the  2.2-litre mHawk diesel unit churns out a max power of 130 bhp and 320 Nm of peak torque. Both these powertrains come with a 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmissions. Point to note, the AX variant comes only with a manual transmission while the LX variant also offers a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission.

The All-New Mahindra Thar base variant starts at Rs 9.80 lakhs (ex-showroom), Delhi. As for the price of this modified version, DC Designs have not revealed it yet.
