Hyundai, one of the leading car manufacturers in the world, has recently confirmed that it will start production of the Creta EV by the end of 2024. The brand’s first high-volume electric vehicle (EV), the Hyundai Creta, will be launched in the Indian market in January 2025. Hyundai Motor India CEO, Mr. Tarun Garg, confirmed this news during a media sales conference. The company has been testing Creta Electric both in India and globally. Test mules of the electric vehicle have been spotted several times on Indian roads. Hyundai is planning to launch five electric vehicles in the Indian market by 2030.
The upcoming Hyundai Creta EV will be assembled at the brand’s Chennai facility. The EV is based on the same platform as the outgoing Creta. It is expected to be manufactured at the same assembly line as the ICE-powered Creta. The new electric car will also share several components with the standard model. The Creta EV is expected to come at an affordable price range as the brand is using an already existing platform. However, the high-volume Hyundai Creta EV will come equipped with unique design elements like aero-optimized alloy wheels and a closed-off grille. Inside the cabin, the EV will feature a unique center console design and steering wheel.

The upcoming Creta EV will come equipped with the same electric motor as the new-generation Kona Electric. The motor is expected to generate a maximum power of 138 hp and a peak torque of 255 Nm. The electric car will feature a 45-kWh battery pack, which is smaller than the one equipped in the upcoming Maruti eVX and MG ZS EV. Just like the Kona EV, the electric SUV will house a front-mounted charging port.
Apart from Hyundai, Maruti Suzuki India will also launch an electric SUV in India next year. The SUV is named Maruti Suzuki eVX, and its production version was showcased at the Auto Expo 2023. The all-electric Creta will rival upcoming models like the Maruti Suzuki eVX and Tata Curvv.
