Toyota India had unveiled the Hilux utility vehicle (UV) last month in the country. The company opened the bookings for Toyota Hilux on January 20 both online and at the dealerships across India. The price announcement has been scheduled in March 2022 followed by the deliveries in April. However, in a surprise move today, Toyota temporarily suspended the bookings for Hilux, citing unprecedented demand. The Japanese brand further stated that it will resume the Hilux bookings at the soonest possible opportunity in the Indian market.
“The iconic Hilux has been recently launched in the Indian market to cater to the needs of customers seeking an incredible lifestyle utility vehicle. We are delighted with the overwhelming response that the Hilux has received from our customers within a fortnight of its launch. We are grateful to our valued customers for their continued trust and confidence in our brand and our enhanced offerings in this whole new product segment. However, in light of various factors impacting our supply, we are unable to meet the heightened demand. Thus, we deeply regret our temporary halt of bookings for the Hilux with a view to avoid any further inconvenience to our customers. We will continue our best efforts to resume the Hilux bookings at the soonest possible opportunity, with our aim to provide the best customer experience,” said Toyota in an official statement.
Some of the notable features in the Hilux pick-up truck include Leather Seats, Dual Zone Fully Automatic Temperature Control, Smart Entry & Auto Headlamps, Drive modes (Power & Eco), Tire Angle Monitor, Front Parking Sensors and an 8-inch infotainment table style screen with Android Auto/Apple CarPlay. The safety features onboard are 7 Airbags, Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Automatic Hill Assist Control (HAC), Downhill Assist Control (DAC) and Traction Control (TC). Toyota Hilux will be powered by a 2.8L 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine which will generate top power of 204 bhp. However, the torque delivery varies with 6-speed automatic and 6-speed manual transmission at 500 Nm and 420 Nm, respectively.
