Mahindra & Mahindra is all set to launch the next-gen Scorpio SUV in the country. Sources have told us that it could be unveiled on June 20 which coincides with the launch of the 1st-gen SUV exactly 20 years back on the same date. The 2022 Mahindra Scorpio has been spotted multiple times on the Indian roads during its test runs with a partial camouflage. Being codenamed as Z101, it has been teased via videos a couple of times on the company's YouTube channel. The SUV will get heavy cosmetic and mechanical updates.
As for the front fascia, the 2022 Mahindra Scorpio will flaunt a six-slat chrome grille, twin-pod projector headlamps, C-shaped LED daytime running lamps and chrome inserts. The front bumper will boast of three separate enclosures for fog lamp units while underneath there will be a faux aluminum skid plate. The rear end is expected to feature a side-hinged tailgate with Volvo-borrowed LED tail lamp cluster. It has been learnt that the company will not discontinue the current-gen model even after the launch of the new-gen Scoprio instead it will be sold alongside. The cabin is expected to come with a new upholstery with several modern features including ADAS.
Based on a ladder-frame chassis, the next-gen Mahindra Scorpio will come with both petrol and diesel engines. It will borrow the powertrains from the XUV700 albeit with lower power output. The diesel engine will be offered with multiple power outputs. The transmission choices are expected to be a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic unit for the entire variant line-up, barring the base variant. Sources close to the development have revealed that a 4x4 drive system will also be there with the range-topping variants. The 2022 Mahindra Scorpio price is expected to start from Rs 14 Lakhs and go as high as Rs 20 Lakhs (Prices are Ex. Showroom, India) for the top-end variant.
