DC Design First Electric Sportscar

Ask any automobile enthusiast about their dream car, the first answer on their lips would be a sportscar. India’s home to some of the world’s biggest automobile companies while it is one of the fourth largest markets in the world. It’s not just the mass segment cars, it’s also home to sportscars. Dilip Chhabria is a well-known Indian car designer and the founder of DC Design. DC Avanti holds the tag of being one of the First Indian sportscar, it was conceptualized and developed by none other than DC Design. DC Avanti was unveiled to the world at the Auto Expo 2012 but didn’t reach the expected success partly due to inferior build quality.

DC Sports Car

DC Avanti was priced at Rs 45 lakhs when it arrived in the Indian market way back in 2015. Powered by RenaultSport BS4 2-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, DC Avanti generated 250 bhp of maximum power. As recently as 2018, DC showcased a successor to the Avanti which it referred to as TCA with a host of updates. In an interaction with Evo India, Dilip Chhabria gave an update regarding the TCA. He saidf, that the TCA would be an electric sportscar and would be available for sale by 2020. Price would be around Rs 40 lakh for the new offering.

DC Sports Car Interior

TCA is still in the development stage, the actual specification and mechanicals might change before the production begins. Electric powertrain work is going on in Switzerland and reports are of the vehicle doing 0-100 kmph sprint in under 5 seconds. TCA chassis and body is already done, interior work is currently in progress. With the present economic climate caused by COVID-19, we can expect the sportscar to arrive by 2022.

DC Sportscar Back View

Indian Government's new reform on electric vehicles could be one of the reasons behind the TCA development. DC Avanti attracted 53 per cent GST while TCA will be charged 5 per cent only. TCA could be also be sold outside India with DC Design seeking the vast potential of the International market for affordable sports cars.

On the whole, TCA could become India’s first electric sports car if everything goes as planned by DC designs. With the trend of electric vehicles across the world, DC Design could just achieve what it wanted with DC Avanti. Affordable, electric sports car could be a game-changer for Dilip Chhabria led DC Design 2.
