Bajaj Auto has reopened the service centres for the Chetak electric scooter in Bengaluru and Pune. The deliveries of the Chetak electric are also expected to start shortly in these two cities after a hiatus of 50 days due to the COVID-19 pandemic. All of the service centres have started functioning again in Bengaluru while a select few in Pune has also restarted operations. The Chetak sub-brand now joins the bandwagon of several other automakers such as Hero, Bajaj, KTM, Piaggio, Royal Enfield, TVS, Jawa, Harley-Davidson, Honda who resumed operations last week.

Bajaj Chetak service centres have been asked to follow strict safety guidelines to ensure the safety of all people on the premises. The company has not officially announced the resumption of production and sales for Chetak as of now, but it is expected to happen very soon. Bajaj has commenced the manufacturing of its other products at its facilities in Aurangabad, Pantnagar and Chakan. Bajaj Chetak Electric was launched on January 15, 2020 in the Indian market in two trim levels: Urbane and Premium. It was equipped with an IP67-rated 3kWh battery pack which transmitted power to the electric motor in the scooter. The power output and torque performance are rated at 5.3bhp and 16Nm, respectively, while the driving range is 95 kilometers on a single charge.

The Urbane variant boasts of drum brakes while available in two colors - Citrus Rush and Cyber White. On the other hand, the Premium variant gets a front disc brake and rear drum brake with four color options: Velluto Rosso, Indigo Metallic, Hazelnut, and Brooklyn Black. The former is priced at Rs 1 Lakh while the latter comes at a price of Rs 1.15 Lakhs (Both the prices are Ex. Showroom). The scooter comes with all LED lighting with fully digital LCD instrument cluster and Bluetooth connectivity. Bajaj Chetak Electric scooter competes with the likes of TVS iQube and Ather 450X in the Indian market. It has been reintroduced after a gap of 14 years, albeit in an electric avatar.
