Kia India launched the Sonet sub-compact SUV in the Indian market on Friday. The SUV is available at an introductory price of INR 8 lakh (ex-showroom), and it goes up to INR 15.69 (ex-showroom). Kia is offering the Sonet in three trim lines: two petrol engines and one diesel engine. The base price is available for the HTE variant with a 1.2-litre petrol motor and 5-speed manual transmission. Bookings for the updated SUV are currently open for a token amount of INR 25,000.
The top-end X-line variant with a 1.5-litre diesel motor and DCT unit is the costliest one, with a price sticker of INR 15.69 lakh (ex-showroom).
The Kia Sonet is one of the most famous models offered by the Korean brand. It was first unveiled on the Indian market in 2020. The SUV comes equipped with a major safety feature, ADAS. The Chief Sales and Business Strategy Officer of Kia India, Myung-sik Sohn, stated that “We are adding a substantial value-for-money proposition at the back of low maintenance and a top-tier safety proposition with the most advanced ADAS technology. We have observed that the Sonet is often the first choice for many buyers, and therefore, we made a conscious decision to keep the price competitive to make the Sonet more accessible to them.”

The new facelift comes with a host of cosmetic changes, such as a completely new front fascia, an LED headlight setup with L-shaped LED DRLs, and a revamped front bumper with redesigned skid plates. The SUV stands on dual-tone 16-inch alloy wheels.
The Sonet has three engine options, including a 1.2-litre petrol motor, a 1.0-litre turbo petrol motor, and a 1.5-litre CRDi diesel unit. The 1.2-litre petrol motor comes mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox, and it generates 81 bhp and 115 Nm of peak torque. Then the 1.0-litre turbo petrol motor comes mated to either an iMT (semi-automatic) or DCT gearbox, and it offers a bhp of 118 and peak torque around 170 Nm. Lastly, the diesel unit gets three transmission choices: 6-speed manual, 6-speed iMT, and 6-speed AT. It churns out 114 bhp and a peak torque of 250 Nm.
Kia is offering the new Sonet with an introductory price range across its variants. The prices will be revised later.
