Tata Motors is planning to introduce the electric version of the Altroz in the Indian market anytime soon. It is being said that the company will be setting up another production line for the Altroz EV. The homegrown automaker recently launched the Dark Edition of Nexon EV. The Tata Altroz EV launch date has not been revealed yet. We can expect it to be launched sometime later this year in the country.
Performance-wise, the upcoming Tata Altroz EV will use Tata’s Ziptron electric powertrain. But as per a media report, it is being speculated that the vehicle might get an additional battery pack option. Furthermore, this larger battery pack is likely to offer 25-40 percent more range, which comes out to be around 500 km. The same powertrain is offered on the Nexon EV. The compact SUV comes with a 30.2 kWh lithium-ion battery pack that powers a 127 bhp electric motor. It further offers an ARAI claimed range of 312 km. Moving on, the Nexon EV’s battery can be charged from 0-80 percent in an hour with the help of a fast charger. Meanwhile, with a regular charger, the battery takes 8.5 hours to charge 10 - 90 percent.
Cosmetically, the Altroz EV will be similar to the regular Altroz. The electric version of the premium hatchback will get the exclusive teal blue paint scheme. Besides this, it will get a redesigned air-dam upfront and electric blue accents. The absence of tail-pipes will help to differentiate the electric version of the Altroz from the standard model. The hatchback will miss out on features like a mechanical gearbox and a gear lever, inside the cabin. The centre console will also be split into two parts and there will be a gear-selector dial in the front of the armrest.
