Suzuki Gixxer 250

Earlier there were reports on the internet that claim that the Japanese bike maker is gearing up to launch a bigger version of the entry-level Gixxer in India. Now the Japanese brand has officially confirmed that it will indeed launch the Gixxer 250 in India and has also provided a launch date for the bike – 20 May. The upcoming Suzuki bike will lock horns with Yamaha FZ25 and KTM 250 Duke among others in the Indian market. As far as the younger sibling of the Gixxer series is concerned the Suzuki Gixxer 155 has been a strong seller in the market and has been a hit among the customers.

There are no radical design changes to be expected on the Gixxer 250 as it will be a beefed up version of the smaller version of the bike that is already present in the Indian market. The styling of the upcoming bike will be similar to the smaller sibling albeit with a more aggressive stance and riding position, also expect twin exhaust muffler and split rails at the rear to make an appearance on the upcoming Suzuki bike. There are hopes that the Japanese company will borrow inspiration from the Haojue DR300. This bike is to be launched by a partner of the company in China. There are speculations that the upcoming Gixxer 250 may come with features like LED headlamps and a fully-digital instrument cluster that may even come with Bluetooth connectivity options. So expect the bike to come with good enough features for the segment.

The company has not disclosed any engine details so far but there was a leak regarding Suzuki’s new 250cc engine in the Indian market. The earlier leak stated that the new unit from Suzuki is a single cylinder engine and is rated to deliver around 25 PS and comes with a 6 speed gearbox. However, the leak remains unconfirmed so far and Suzuki can change the engine for making the bike more cost effective. Other cost cutting measures may see the company not including features like a slipper clutch on the upcoming bike. The upcoming Gixxer 250 will share a lot of parts with its lighter sibling. There parts may encompass handle, fuel tank, tyres, shock absorbers, electrical parts and instrument console. Although, do expect subtle changes in looks and features in the Gixxer 250 in order to distinguish it from the cheaper sibling.

As far as safety features are concerned, the upcoming Gixxer will come with disc brakes on both wheels and mandatory ABS on at least one wheel, although dual channel ABS may just be standard with the bike. The suspension duties will be handled by normal telescopic fork at front and monoshocker at the rear. Suzuki may also bring a fully faired version of the bike in future, but that will take some time.
