Nissan Magnite is one of the success stories of 2020 in the domestic automobile market. The Japanese manufacturer has received a much-needed boost in the fast-growing Indian market. Magnite bookings have crossed the 40,000 figure in the country indicating the popularity of the subcompact SUV among Indian buyers. Launched at an introductory price of Rs 4.99 lakh (ex-showroom), India, Nissan recently updated Magnite's starting price to Rs 5.49 lakh (ex-showroom), India.

In a new development, the Nissan Magnite Turbo variants prices have been increased by as much as Rs 30,000. The price hike was expected considering other automakers have done the same in the recent months. Nissan India has been ramping up production to cope up with the rising demand as 4,000 booking requests were received in February 2021 itself. As of now, the waiting period stretches to almost 7 months depending on the variant and the booking location.

While Nissan Magnite manual transmission models continue to be available at the same price. Other trims namely XE, XL, XV and XV P prices remain unchanged. Its competitive pricing has worked for Nissan India as the booking requests continue to rise with every passing month. The turbocharged Magnite variants now start from Rs 7.99 lakh (ex-showroom), with the top-end trim retailing at Rs 9.75 lakh (ex-showroom), India.

The Nissan Magnite is available with two petrol engine options namely 1.0-litre naturally aspirated unit and a 1.0-litre turbocharged motor. The former delivers 72 bhp of maximum power output and 96Nm of peak torque while the latter produces 99 bhp of power output and 160Nm of peak torque. The naturally aspirated petrol engine is paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox. On the other hand, the turbocharged engine comes with two transmission options comprising of a 5-speed manual gearbox and a CVT unit.

Nissan India and Renault India share a common production facility in Chennai which has helped in keeping the prices of Magnite and Kiger lower in comparison to their rivals. To reduce waiting time and avoid cancellations of bookings, Nissan India had to streamline its manufacturing. We have seen Mahindra and Mahindra struggle with the delivery of the Thar to customers as well as Hyundai also in the case of Creta.
