What is the "Pack" Nomenclature in Mahindra BE Cars?

Mahindra uses the "Pack" nomenclature to simplify its trim levels for its Born Electric (BE) range. These "Packs" are ascending tiers of features, battery options, and performance.

  • Pack 1 (Entry-Level): This is the base variant with the smaller battery pack (59 kWh).
  • Pack 2 (Mid-Range): This is the mid-tier variant with the smaller 59 kWh + larger 79 kWh battery option (newly launched). It offers a balance of features, performance, and range.
  • Pack 3 (Top-End): This is the top-of-the-line variant with the larger battery pack (79 kWh) as standard.

Why did Mahindra Launch Mid-Spec 79 kWh Battery Pack Variants for BE 6 and XUV 9e?

The company made this move according to the market demand and as a clever way to democratize access to longer-range EVs. Here are the reasons explained:

Customer Feedback and Demand for Range: Internal research and early booking trends revealed that a significant segment of customers prioritized extended driving range over every single premium feature. Many buyers wanted the long range of the 79 kWh battery without having to pay for all the luxury add-ons of the "Pack 3".

Balancing Range and Affordability: A 79 kWh battery in Pack Two allows customers to get the highly desired longer range at a more accessible price point.

Democratizing Premium EV Mobility: The larger battery in a mid-spec variant ensures that the benefits of a longer range are not exclusive to the most expensive models.

Production Prioritization and Mix: Mahindra wants to sustain high sales volumes and tap into a broader market. They need strong sales from Pack One and Pack Two as well. Introducing the 79 kWh option in Pack Two is a key enabler for this.
