Jaguar Land Rover India has announced that the Defender SUV will be launched in India on 15 October, 2020. The launch will take place virtually with the online bookings open on Land Rover’s India official website. Land Rover Defender price is expected to start from Rs 69.99 Lakh (ex-showroom, India). Recently, the iconic SUV featured in the upcoming James Bond movie ‘No Time to Die’. The powerful SUV was unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2019 and arrives here after much delay. The British luxury automaker had opened the pre-bookings of the Defender in February this year for the Indian buyers.

The deliveries were scheduled to begin from August but the COVID-19 pandemic scuppered the company plans. This would be the first time that the iconic SUV is coming to India since the iconic British manufacturer entered the Indian market in 2009. 

Land Rover Defender Side Views
The new Land Rover Defender will be sold in the Indian market in two body styles -  the short wheelbase 90 (3-door) and the longer wheelbase 110 (5-door). Both the 90 and 110 Defender will come in 5 variants- Base, S, SE, HSE, and First Edition. The Defender 110 will rival the Jeep Wrangler and the Mercedes-Benz G350 while the 90 Defender won’t have any direct competition in the Indian market.

Rohit Suri, President & Managing Director, Jaguar Land Rover India Ltd (JLRIL), said: “It will be a proud moment for Land Rover to bring the iconic New Defender for the first time in India since we entered the country in 2009. It will also be a significant milestone for the overall auto industry in India to witness the launch of a vehicle which enjoys legendary cult status across the globe. In line with its status, an immersive and highly engaging digital launch event has been planned to mark its arrival in India”.

Talking about the performance, the SUV has 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine under the hood. The engine will deliver 300 bhp of power and 400 Nm of peak torque. The engine is paired to an 8-speed automatic gearbox and gets an all-wheel-drive unit also. Range Rover Evoque, Discovery Sport, Range Rover Velar, Discovery, Range Rover Sport and Range Rover are the other offerings by Land Rover in India.
