In a Noble Gesture, Jawa to Auction Bikes to Support Children of Army Personnel

Legendary retro bike maker and the recent brand to make a comeback in India, Jawa Motorcycles will conduct an auction for the benefit of the children of the martyrs of the armed forces of India. Keeping in mind that the customer deliveries of the brand bikes are scheduled to begin very shortly, the auction for the noble cause will be conducted in the coming week. Jawa took to a Twitter post to make this announcement recently. The customer deliveries for the Jawa branded motorcycles, Jawa Classic and Jawa 42, are scheduled to being by the end of March 2019, and we hope that details of the auction to be organized by the brand will soon start pouring in.

Jawa launched their new models Classic and 42 for the Indian market just a day after another retro motorcycle maker in India Royal Enfield launched their twin-cylinder Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650 in the country. This happened in the November of 2018. If you do not already have the knowledge, let us inform you that the two brands had quite a rivalry in the old days when they were active in the Indian market. On the day of Jawa’s event, the newly resurrected brand launched three new bikes in India -- Classic, 42 and the Perak. The Jawa 42 is the beginner model for the brand and is priced at Rs. 1.55 lakhs (ex-showroom), then comes the brand’s Classic a modern recreation of the iconic Jawa bike if the time when Jawa existed in the market and this model is priced at Rs. 1.63 lakhs (ex-showroom). Next comes the third and final bike of the Jawa line-up, the single-seat Perak hardtail bobber priced at Rs. 1.89 lakhs, this is the top model of the brand so far.

However, the Perak will come with a delay as the deliveries for the bike will begin toward the end of the current year. As far as the other models are concerned, their deliveries will begin by the end of this month. These bikes will be delivered only to the customers who had booked these bikes in advance. The brand is not taking any bookings for the bikes till September 2019 as the company has to first deliver the bikes that have already been booked.

The customers who will receive their Jawa bikes before July of this year, will find their bikes equipped only with a single channel ABS. The customers who will receive the bikes after the given month, will get the bike with a dual channel ABS system. Those waiting to book the bikes will hence find themselves in luck as the dual channel ABS technology is pretty safe as compared to the single channel ABS braking system.

As far as the mechanicals of the Jawa Classic and Jawa 42 are concerned, the bikes come paired with the same engine and transmission. The engine in both the bikes is a 292cc, 4-stroke single cylinder engine derived from Mahindra Mojo’s engine. The mill is rated to produce 27 Bhp and 28 Nm of output. The said engine on both the bikes has been tuned to give good low-end torque to the users -- just like the Jawas of yesteryear did. The exhaust of the bikes have also been tuned to provide the same kind of sound that the old 2-stroke Jawas did. While there have been some tweaks in the bike to maintain the feel of the years gone by, there are a lot of new features on offer as well. This overall makes the new bikes from Jawa a pretty solid package.
