  • Husqvarna 401 twins will share their underpinnings with KTM 390 Duke
  • The upcoming Husqvarna 401 twins will borrow their engine from Duke 390.
  • The 401 twins will lock horns with Bajaj Dominar 400 and BMW G310R.

Swedish motorcycle brand Husqvarna is prepping to launch naked twins - Svartpilen 401 and Vitpilen 401 in the domestic market. Basically, Husqvarna is a subsidiary of the Austrian motorcycle brand KTM. Also, both are manufactured at Bajaj Auto’s facility in Chakan near Pune in Maharashtra. Ahead of the official launch, one of the twins was spotted doing test runs outside Pune. Images of the same have been leaked online.

The test mule in the images was wrapped in heavy camouflage. Hence, it was difficult to figure out which model it is - Svartpilen or Vitpilen. However, we could figure out that the test mule had Husqvarna badge on its right hand side and a KTM badging on left side. Furthermore, the 401 twins share their underpinnings with that off 390 Duke.

In terms of design, the India-spec twins 401 will sport alloy rims instead of the spoked wheels as seen in the European-version. In addition, they will also get pillion grab rails to comply with the safety norms set by the Indian Government. As for features, it will be caried forward from the 250 twins. These include an all-LED lighting setup, ABS from Bosch, and a fully digital instrument cluster.

Mechanically, the 401 twins will share its powertrain with its KTM Duke counterpart. The bikes will borrow the 373.2cc single-cylinder cooled DOHC engine from KTM Duke 390. This engine churns out 44 bhp power and 37.5 Nm torque while being mated to a 6-speed gearbox. Talking about the cycle parts, they are expected to be carried forward from Duke 390. Suspension duties will be taken care of by the USD forks at the front and adjustable mono-shock towards the rear. Its trellis frame structure will also be retained.

We can expect the 401 twins to be launched early next year. Furthermore, they are likely to be priced around Rs 20,000 lower than the KTM 390 Duke. Once launched, they will rival the likes of Bajaj Dominar 400 and BMW G310R.
