BMW India unveiled the i4 electric sedan in the country. Having said that, the vehicle will be launched in India on May 26. We can expect the new BMW i4 to be sold in a total of two variants in the country namely the eDrive40 and M50 xDrive. The automaker showcased the eDrive40 variant in India. Furthermore, i4 is the BMW Group’s third all-electric vehicle in the country.


Cosmetically, the all-electric i4 is quite similar to the combustion engine counterpart - the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe. It is based on the CLAR architecture. The design bits include a blanked-off front grille, aero-optimized wheels, flush door handles, tweaked front & rear bumpers, and blue accents. Dimensionally, the BMW i4 stands at 4783mm in length, 1852mm in width, and 1448mm in height. The vehicle comes with a 2856mm wheelbase. 

The cabin of the BMW i4 electric sedan comes equipped with a plethora of features. These include a twin-screen setup consisting of a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.6-inch touchscreen infotainment unit, the latest iDrive 8 user interface, and over-the-air-updates. 

Performance-wise, the i4 eDrive40 comes with a rear-axle mounted electric motor that churns out a top power of 339 bhp and a peak torque of 430 Nm. The i4 M50 xDrive, on the other hand, gets an all-wheel drive. The motor generates 543 bhp power and 795 Nm peak torque. Furthermore, both trims use a floor-mounted lithium-ion battery pack which comes with a total energy capacity of 83.9 kWh along with a usable capacity of 80.7 kWh. The i4 eDrive40 trim can do a sprint from 0-100kmph in just 5.7 seconds. It further comes with a claimed range of 590 km (WLTP cycle). The more powerful i4 M50 xDrive can accelerate from 0-100kmph in a mere 3.9 seconds and comes with a claimed range of 510 km (WLTP cycle).
