Previously limited to China, the Lexus LM is now set to mark its global entry with its second-generation model. Lexus recently unveiled that this new LM version will be available in both left-hand and right-hand drive configurations, targeting diverse markets including Europe, Asia, the Middle East, the United Kingdom, and of course, China. The revamped LM, where LM signifies "Luxury Mover," is intentionally crafted to cater to a specific clientele seeking an alternative to chauffeur-driven SUVs.
The upgraded second-gen Lexus LM is built upon Toyota's versatile GA-K modular platform, a shared base used by various vehicles like the Camry, Lexus ES, Lexus RX, as well as Toyota's RAV4 and Highlander SUVs in international markets. The vehicle features the latest rendition of Lexus' signature prominent grille, elegant headlights, and more. To enhance its aesthetics, the profile showcases a reimagined glass structure and subtle contours that mitigate the overly boxy appearance.
In terms of dimensions, the length remains consistent at 5,130mm, while the width spans 1,890mm and the height stands at 1,945mm. The Lexus LM offers two seating configurations overseas and includes convenient sliding doors on both sides. It rolls on either 17-inch or 19-inch alloy wheels.
The updated Lexus LM embraces a range of lavish features including recliner seats reminiscent of those found on airlines, an expansive 48-inch widescreen TV, a premium 23-speaker surround-sound audio system, and plush pillow-style headrests. Passengers are also treated to foldable tables, numerous USB ports, wireless phone charging capabilities, reading lights, vanity mirrors, a refrigerator, rear glove compartments, and even an umbrella holder. Notably, a customizable dimmable glass panel is available to ensure privacy.
The new LM introduces an innovative voice control system tailored exclusively for rear passengers—a pioneering offering globally. An overhead console oversees functions like door control, storage compartments, and cabin temperature. Rear passengers additionally enjoy a smartphone-like control panel to manage climate settings, seat adjustments, interior lighting, window blinds, and audio preferences.
Emphasizing noise reduction, Lexus has invested significantly in the second-generation LM. The vehicle incorporates a specially designed headliner and improved sealing, leading to a 40 percent enhancement in insulation. Noise-reducing wheels and tires, along with an active noise control system that utilizes a microphone to counteract undesirable sounds while driving, further contribute to a serene cabin atmosphere. Drivers benefit from a digital rear-view mirror, a panoramic-view monitor, a digital infotainment setup, and digital instrumentation.
The new Lexus LM is offered with two petrol-hybrid powertrain alternatives. The LM350h is powered by a 2.5-liter self-charging hybrid engine, a familiar choice seen in other Toyota and Lexus models. This variant, featuring standard four-wheel drive, is also anticipated to be available for the Indian market. Additionally, a more potent LM500h will be introduced to the global lineup in due course.
Although the initial-generation LM was showcased at the Auto Expo in India earlier this year, the debut of the new LM is still pending. However, based on recent information shared by Lexus India, it's anticipated that pricing details for the Indian market will be disclosed in the upcoming months.
