Land Rover Defender 110 has scored a 5 Star Safety Rating in a crash test conducted recently by Euro NCAP. Nothing surprising to say to the least, the iconic SUV is well-known for its off-roading capacities and ability to navigate through harsh terrains. The organization regularly tests various cars for safety features on-board and how well it protects occupants in the event of a crash. Thus, Euro NCAP tested Land Rover Defender 110 featuring a 2.0-litre diesel engine with a right-hand-drive layout. In India, the SUV is priced at Rs 73.98 lakhs (ex-showroom). As we already know Land Rover Defender 110 comes to the Indian market via the CBU (Completely Built Unit) route. Thus, the 5-star safety rating will be applicable to the current Defender 110 on sale here as well.

Talking about the safety test in detail, Euro NCAP awarded 85 percent rating to Defender 110 in Adult Occupant Protection. The SUV scored well in the Lateral Impact (15 points out of 16), Rescue and Extrication Parameter (perfect score of 2) and Rear Impact (out of 4 points it got 3.8). The vehicle scored low in front impact parameter with just 11.7 points awarded out of maximum 16 on offer.

In the Child Occupant Test parameter, it secured an impressive 85 percent (41.7 out of maximum 49 points). While in the 6 & 10-year-old children category, the Defender did well to achieve a perfect score of 24 points. As for child restraints (CRS) installation check, the iconic off-roader bagged 10.7 points out of a maximum of 12. The only downside here was that the off-roader scored low in the safety features category with just 7 out of 13 points. The reason for this score is the lack of integrated child restraints while child-seat mounts are missing in the middle seat of the second and third row.

As per Euro NCAP assessment, Land Rover Defender 110’s performance was good in detection and reaction to the approaching cars with impact avoided in most scenarios. Also, the SUV’s Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) system will detect road users like pedestrians, cyclists, and oncoming vehicles. In both the frontal offset test and the side barrier impact, the four-wheeler scored maximum points in the protection of both child dummies. The SUV’s passenger compartment remained stable in the offset frontal test. Overall, Land Rover Defender 110 is exceptionally stable in collision impact as well as providing protection to the occupants in the event of a crash test.

In India, it is retailed with only one powertrain option - a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder Ingenium petrol engine. The SUV delivers 300bhp of power output and 400Nm of peak torque. Transmission duties are handled by an 8-speed automatic gearbox with four-wheel drive as standard.
