In 2019, Tata Motors did not produce a single unit of its Nano entry-level vehicle, although it produced just one unit in February, even though the company still has to officially retire the "people's car" of Ratan Tata.

Likewise, the entry-level model was produced and sold at nil in November 2019, while it manufactured 66 units and sold 77 units in the year-ago era. Also in October 2019, it did not produce or sell any unit of the Nano, according to the filing, while it rolled out 71 units during the year-ago month while selling 54 units.

Also, Tata Motors didn't produce a single unit of Nano during the first nine months of 2019. The company has not sold a single unit in any month of last year except February when it sold only one, according to the company's multiple regulatory filings.

Tata Motors has maintained so far that no judgment has yet been taken on the future of the Nano saying that a car's production preparation is "aware market control, device inventory or expected efficiencies."

Nevertheless, it has acknowledged that the Nano will not meet the new safety regulations and BS-VI emission standards in its current form. In January 2008, Tata Motors launched Nano at the Auto Expo with much hope of being "the vehicle of the nation," as called by then Tata group leader Ratan Tata. But, with revenues dwindling over the years, it could not live up to the price increment.
