Jawa motorcycle brand came back into existence in 2018. Mahindra and Mahindra’s subsidiary Classic Legends brought back the Jawa range of motorcycles in the Indian market. The brand begun its new journey in India with the announcement of three models- Jawa, the Forty Two and the Perak. Jawa and Forty Two made to the authorized dealerships by 2019 but the Perak deliveries were delayed. The BS6 compliant Perak was introduced in Indian in November 2019 at an introductory price of Rs 1.95 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). Jawa Perak deliveries were scheduled to begin from April but COVID-19 pandemic put a hold on the plans. In a piece of good news for the bike lovers, Classic Legends has announced that deliveries will begin from July 20.
Jawa shared a secret message on social media alongside three images. One image reveals number 20, one has number 7 and the last one carried number 2020. The three images revealed the date of the deliveries as July 20, 2020. Jawa Perak is the first model from Classic Legends to get a BS6 update. Jawa Perak is based on the vintage Jawa Classic but it comes equipped with new designs and mechanical updates. If we talk about the design, the it sports a floating single-seat, revamped exhaust, updated fenders and a blacked-out engine. The key highlight of Jawa Perak design os the matte paint with contrasting saddle colour.
Jawa Perak is powered by a BS6 compliant 334cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled DOHC engine. The bike will deliver 30 bhp of top power and 31 Nm of peak torque. In comparison to the other two models, Jawa Perak is equipped with a powerful engine. It also comes with a unique subframe and a rear suspension system. The motorcycle's suspension system features telescopic forks and mono-shock with the swingarm. The bike comes with a twin-disc brake at both the ends with dual-channel ABS as a standard offering.
As of now, Jawa Perak doesn’t have direct competitors in India but it could cut into the market share of Royal Enfield Classic 350 and Benelli Imperiale 400.
