The 2020 new-gen Honda City, three months after its originally scheduled premiere in March, was finally unveiled a couple of days back. The Japanese automaker unveiled the India-spec sedan via the digital route due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic. The company confirmed that it will launch the 2020 new-gen Honda City will go on sale next month in July with fresh styling, new features, and BS6 powertrains. Loggerheads with the likes of Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Hyundai Verna, Volkswagen Vento, and Skoda Rapid, here are the top five things that you should know about it:

Widest & Longest

The 2020 new-gen Honda City will be the longest and widest in the mid-sized sedan segment in India. It will measure 4549mm in length, 1748mm in width, and 1489mm in height while having a wheelbase of 2600mm. The sedan will be 109mm longer and 53mm wider than the preceding model while being shorter by 6mm. The wheelbase, however, will be identical to the outgoing model with a boot space of 506 litres.

'Ambitious Sedan' Concept

Adorning the ‘Ambitious Sedan’ design philosophy and inspired by the Japanese Katana blade which is a type of curved sword used by ancient samurai, the 2020 new-gen Honda City comes with a plethora of exciting exterior elements. The full LED headlamps with daytime running lamps (DRLs) and L-Shaped LED turn signals to lend the front fascia a unique appearance. The sedan rides on a 16-inch dual-tone diamond-cut alloy wheels while the rear end boasts of a Z-shaped 3D wrap-around LED tail-lamp cluster with LED side marker lamps.

India's first connected car

Being dubbed as India's first fully connected car, the 2020 new-gen Honda City debuts Alexa remote feature which enables the owners to interact with the car from their homes or offices. In addition, the next-gen Honda Connect with Telematics Control Unit (TCU) is also available with more than 32 connected features including Vehicle position, Door lock status, Auto Crash Notification & Emergency Assistance, Stolen Vehicle Tracking, Security Alert, Geo-Fence Alert and many more. Other first-in-segment features include 17.7cm HD fully colored TFT Meter with Multi-Function Driver Information Interface and G Meter, Seat-back Pockets with Smartphone Sub-Pockets, Steering Mounted Commander Scroll Switch, Walkaway Auto Lock, and All Auto Power Windows and Sunroof.

ASEAN NCAP 5-Star Rating

The sedan has been given a 5-star safety rating as it comes equipped with a plethora of safety features. These include 6 airbags system, Hill-start assist, Tire Pressure Monitoring System, Honda LaneWatch Camera, Multi-angle Rear Camera, Pedestrian Injury Mitigation Technology among others.

BS6 Powertrains

The 2020 new-gen Honda City is powered by two engine options - 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol and 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel engines. The 1.5-litre petrol engine produces 121 bhp power and 145 Nm torque. The engine comes mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox along with CVT as an option. While the 1.5-litre diesel engine churns out 100 bhp power and 200 nm torque, mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox.
