Tata Tiago came as the successor of Tata Bolt in 2016. Or you can say it was renamed as Tiago from Zica due to the clash with the Zika virus at that time. Owing to online suggestions, Tiago was given a commonly used Portuguese masculine name. Tata launched Tiago at a price of ₹3.46 Lakhs only. Soon, it became one of the finest hatchback cars in India. According to Statista, The sales volume of Tata Tiago as of March 2021 across India was about 6,893 units.
The main reasons behind its success were, TATA's Safety and aggressive pricing. After its launch in 2016, Tata launched the Tiago JTP, which is a sporty version with 1.2-litre Revotron Turbo Engine. Last year, the facelift version was released with a BS-6 compliant 1.2-litre triple-cylinder engine. It had five-speed manual and AMT transmission options.
Since Tiago received its second update, the whole outlook of the car has changed a lot. A front bumper is added along with headlamps and a new grille. You will get dual-tone alloy wheels, which gives a classy look to the car. At the top, a black roof and black ORVM with indicators. The Global NCAP (New Car Assessment Program) has rated Tiago 4 out of 5. Currently, there are four Tata Tiago variants available in the market - XE, XT, XZ and XZ+. Tiago is offered in Arizona Blue, Flame Red, Victory Yellow, Pearlescent White, Purse Silver and Daytona Grey colours.
The 5 seater hatchback comes in 1.05 diesel and 1.2 petrol and engine variants with both manual and automatic transmission. TATA discontinued the diesel variant later. Reportedly the facelift for the Tiago NRG version is set to release this year following the success of the BS-4 version. The 2021 Tiago NRG looks sportier than ever. Also, there are some additional features to look at. The bonnet will remind you of the old classic Tata Tiago. Both the bumpers are equipped with skid plates which justifies the sporty look. There are black claddings on the sides and integrated roof rails which makes it look more stylish. The dual-tone 15-inch steel wheels look sturdy enough. Tiago NRG has a rearview camera for better parking. The important additions include a quick start button and a 7-inch Informative screen that supports Apple and Android Auto.
The interiors are well designed with a charcoal black theme. A 7- speaker Harman Kardon sound system comes pre-installed in this car. The Tiago NRG uses the same engine as the standard Tiago model and has similar variants of transmission. Overall, the Tiago is an ideal hatchback for city traffic and long pleasant drives. You can say it is more of a common man's hatchback car in this price segment.
