Harrier was developed under the project Q501. Primarily it was named Tata H5X. Later before the release, the name was shortened to "Harrier" in 2018. Harrier is a C - segment SUV based on the OmegaArc platform. It is placed between the subcompact Tata Nexon and mid-sized Tata Safari. Harrier has a 2 litres Multijet 16 valve four-cylinder turbo diesel engine.According to a survey, this is observed that harrier’s sales are around 3000 units per month.
It delivers max power 125 kW (170 PS) at 3750 RPM and maximum torque 350 Nm at 1750 - 2500. Harrier has been manufactured to compete with Hyundai Creta. It is built on the same platform where cars of Land Rover and Jaguar are made. The aluminium infused architecture present in Land Rover is an expensive occurrence.
The aluminium architecture is replaced by cost-effective materials but the inborn beauty of this platform has made the Harrier a standout. The production began in October 2018 at the Pune plant. On 23 rd January 2019, Tata finally launched Harrier.
There are independent suspensions at four ends which takes this car to international standards.
Tata Motors launched the Dark Edition in October 2019. The Dark edition has a Dark badge. It has got a premium black headlamp bezel. There are R18 Blackstone alloy wheels that match well with its Oberon Black colour. The interior is well decorated with a Dark chrome pack and the all-new Blackstone interior theme. Harrier received two facelifts, one in February 2020 and another in November 2020.
The February 2020 facelift had a panoramic sunroof, increased power output and an automatic transmission which was inspired by Hyundai. Also, the horsepower was increased to 170 hp. The Harrier "camo" edition was launched in the November 2020 facelift. It had military-themed interiors. The additional features include roof rails, side steps and front parking sensors which are very essential for SUVs.
The interiors had sunshades, 3D moulded mats, 3D trunk mats and anti-skid dash mats. One of the most minor yet useful features is the back seat organizer, you can hang your bottles and keep other important stuff there. The Harrier has nine variants - XE, XM, XMA, XT, XT+, XZ, XZ+, XZA and XZA+. The headlamps at the front and LED projector lamps are designed well to make it look more premium. The OVRMs are electrically foldable and look stylish. The steering and the seats are well wrapped up with premium leather.
There is an 8.8" Floating Island infotainment system equipped with 9 JBL speakers and an external amplifier which offers the best acoustic experience in this segment. It supports both Android Auto and Apple Car Play. The Instrument cluster is 17.78 cm and has a colour TFT display.
