Tata Altroz Cars

One of the Tata hatchback segment's premium models, the Altroz. On 22nd January 2020, Tata launched the subcompact hatchback. The concept was teased at the 89th Geneva International Motor Show alongside the Buzzard, Buzzard Sport, and H2X compact SUV concepts. The name "Altroz,"  as you can guess, is derived from the sea bird Albatross. Tata had sold 47000+ units in the previous year 2020. 

The Altro got five out of five ratings from Global NCAP ( New Car Assessment Program). This proves how safe it is. Also, in terms of child occupant protection, it has got three stars. Currently, three engine variants are offered: a 1.2liter-cylinder NA petrol, 1.5-liter diesel, and a 1.2-liter triple-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine. 

There is only a 5 level speed manual transmission right now, but as per reports, Tata is preparing to launch a Punch Powertrain sourced wet-clutch DCT.

Altroz is available in five colours namely - Harbour Blue, Avenue White, Midtown Grey, Downtown Red and High Street Gold colours. It is based on the Alfa Arc platform. In the front, there are headlamps and below are integrated DRLs (Daytime Running Lamps) along with fog lamps.

The interiors are based on dual theme colours. The dashboard features a floating seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Connect Next app suite. There is a separate seven inches screen with an analogue dial for the instrument cluster. The glove box provided is 15 litres. The "Cruise" control is one of the most important features of the car. In 2019, the Altroz "Dark Edition" was launched. 

The Cosmo Dark coloured body with granite black interior theme looks stunning. If you are obsessed with the black colour, then this version will surely entice you, especially the dark chrome on the hood. The seats are large enough and are way more comfortable. At low speed, the suspension works fine by absorbing the jerkings and at high-speed levels, it shows great stability.

There are four trims of this model. It starts with the XE which is equipped with basic safety features. The remaining three are XM - spec, XT trim and XZ trims. Each trim is available with an add on pack bunched with specific features. The Rhythm pack offers XE and XM users to upgrade their informative systems. The Style pack offers a contrast roof, steel wheels and LED DRLs for XM users.

There is a Luxe pack that includes a leather-wrapped steering wheel, height-adjustable driver's seat and rear centre armrest for XT users. Lastly, XZ buyers can enhance the looks of their car with the Urban pack which includes diamond-cut alloy wheels, exterior colour coordinated detailing in the cabin and contrast black roofs.

The Pros and Cons of Tata Altroz are - 

Pros -

• Stunning looks and jaw-dropping design

• Stunning interiors with high-quality materials

Cons - 

• The auto-Dimming feature is absent

• There is no automatic gearbox

• Resale value is not convincing

• Not exactly a hatch

• Routine servicing after every 6 months i.e 7500Km whereas 10,000 Km/ year is the norm

Conclusion

Starting with the pricing of Tata Cars around 6 lakh this car has caught the eye of many. Several cars in the same segment are offering more or less features but this one had surely shook the market with salient features and when it comes to safety, Tata has always held the leading position with its superior build quality. Giving a tough competition to rivals, this car is still the choice of many in the market.
