Mitsubishi Motors Corporation is a Japanese automobile manufacturing company established in 1970. The company is currently headquartered in Minato, Tokyo, Japan. Mitsubishi became the sixth-largest Japanese automaker in 2011. Nissan currently owns 34%, or one-third, of the shares of the company, which is a part of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance. Mitsubishi entered the Indian market in 1998 in collaboration with Hindustan Motors, one of India’s biggest car makers. In India, HM took charge of producing or assembling Mitsubishi car models. The Mitsubishi Lancer was the first car launched by the brand in India. Later, the automaker introduced higher and updated variants of the Lancer. The Japanese company then expanded its lineup with several new Mitsubishi car models, including the famous Pajero, Outlander, Montero, and more. The brand introduced its first all-electric mini car, the i-MiEV, in 2009. Mitsubishi then started discontinuing its models in India. Currently, the brand only offers the Outlander SUV in India. However, the automaker is expected to launch new car models in the country, reviving its previous brand image. Recently, the brand formed a partnership with TVS Mobility to set up a comprehensive vehicle mobility ecosystem in the country with an investment of Rs. 300 crore.
