Hummer is a global brand, known for their SUVs and trucks. Hummer originated from the military vehicle Humvee.
The first Hummer car model called, the Hummer H, was introduced by AM General in 1992 as a civilian model. Later General Motors (GM) acquired the rights of Hummer in 1999 and launched the off-road capable models H2 and H3.
GM discontinued the Hummer brand in 2010 due to poor sales and high fuel consumption. In 2021, GM revived Hummer as an all-electric vehicle (EV) brand. The first electric vehicle was the Hummer EV pickup truck and the second was its SUV variant.
GM launched the Hummer H2 in 2005 in India. They priced it at Rs 49.5 lacs (ex-showroom) in Delhi. Once again GM faced poor sales due to overpricing, fuel inefficiency, and lack of enough attraction.
GM discontinued Hummer car sales in India in 2008. Hummer completely abandoned the Indian market in 2017. Presently, only used Hummer cars are brought to India via imports.
GM sold the Hummer H2 in India which had a 6-liter V8 petrol engine. No new Hummer vehicles are sold in India now. So, Hummer’s market share in India is zero.
Hummer vehicles are known for their durable build, high ground clearance, and extreme off-road capacity. They have a distinctive boxy design and commanding presence. The Hummer H2 was the best-selling model in India.
Hummer Cars compete with the Land Rover Range Rover, Toyota Land Cruiser, and Mercedes-Benz G-Class. These cars offer similar off-road capabilities and luxury feel.
