Chevrolet also known as Chevy is an American automobile division of the American manufacturer General Motors (GM). The company was founded in 1911 by Louis Chevrolet, A Swiss race car driver, and automotive engineer. The company was founded along with William C. Durant and investment partners William Little, James H. Whiting, Dr. Edwin R. Campbell and in 1912 R. S. McLaughlin CEO of General Motors in Canada.

Chevrolet company entered the Indian market in the year 2003. The office was constructed in Bombay with an assembly unit plant constructed in Sewri, Mumbai. The company was the first automobile plant to set up an assembly plant in India that started in 1928. But in the year 1952-53, the socialist Indian government forced the GM to shut its operation in India, but the company returned in the year 2003.

The company had its two manufacturing facilities in India in Halol, Gujarat and the other one in Talegaon, Pune. The Halol manufacturing plant had the manufacturing capability of producing 1,27,000 units per annum and the Talegaon Manufacturing Plant had the capability to manufacture 1,65,000 units per annum.     

General Motors might have shut its production unit in India, but it still has a long history of manufacturing some legendary car in the Indian market.

As per the latest information available from the brand side, the production of the Chevrolet new car models has been stopped. In May 2017, Chevrolet officially announced its exit from the Indian car market. So, there are future upcoming cars from the brand. However, the Chevrolet owners can still find spare parts as the Talegaon still manufactures parts.
