The Activa has been the defacto Indian automatic scooter for over a decade. Very few manufacturers managed to eat into the Activa’s market share. Honda has done well on its part to keep taking its popular automatic scooter back to the drawing board at regular intervals. Over time it has given it a facelift, increased its displacement, and added its Combined Braking System (CBS) in the past. On this iteration, Honda has incorporated new engine technology known as Honda Eco Technology (HET).
On the outside
Styling remains largely untouched, retaining its universal appeal. Why mess with a formula that works?
Power Torque
Honda’s new engine has been tweaked to run more efficiently. Its four-stroke, 109cc, single-cylinder and forced air-cooled engine generates maximum power of 8.1hp at 7500rpm and peak torque of 8,.8Nm at 5500rpm. This new HET-equipped engine, comes with improved combustion thanks to the use of a superior spark plug. Its inlet ports have been redesigned, there’s a new offset crankshaft, low-tension piston rings, lower friction bearing oil-seals and lighter internal engine components. Its pulley converter ratios within the automatic transmission are also modified, which work towards aiding fuel economy without losing out on power and torque.
Is it worth the money?
The automatic scooter market in India is very competitive, apart from new models from Honda, Yamaha, Vespa and Bajaj are all eyeing this segment and plan to introduce scooters soon. The Activa is priced at Rs 50,730(ex-showroom, Delhi) and is a strong value for money scooter.
