Toyota Glanza, a rebadged version of Maruti Suzuki Baleno, was launched in 2019 in the country. Last year, we had seen the test mule of Baleno with a hybrid powertrain testing on the Indian roads. Now, a test mule of Toyota Glanza was spotted doing test runs.
Toyota is likely to be testing the same hybrid powertrain as the Maruti Baleno hybrid that was spied earlier. According to a source, both the models could use a setup identical to the Swift hybrid that was showcased at the Auto Expo last year. Performance-wise, the Swift hybrid sports a 1.2-litre petrol engine. The motor churns out a maximum power of 91 bhp and a peak torque of 118 Nm while being mated to a 5-speed AMT gearbox. This engine is further coupled up with a 10 kW motor that generates 13 bhp power and 30 Nm torque. Talking about this hybrid powertrain, it uses a self-charging system with the help of a regenerative braking system.
Furthermore, we can expect the Toyota Glanza hybrid to launch towards the end of this year. As for the price, the new hybrid version could be slightly costlier than the existing mild-hybrid model of the respective vehicle. Toyota Glanza already comes equipped with a mild-hybrid system that incorporates a starter generator with its 1.2-litre petrol motor. Furthermore, this mild-hybrid tech is offered only in the G(MT) variant of the Glanza. The spied mule also appears to be a G trim. Thus this creates speculation that the car might have a bigger battery and a 10 kW electric motor similar to the one present in the Swift hybrid.
