 Skoda Vision IN

Skoda has been working on an all-new SUV for the Indian market. Being dubbed as Skoda Vision IN Concept, it was showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo in February. Now, it has been learnt that the SUV will be christened as Skoda Kosmiq in its production-ready avatar. Skoda Kosmiq has been specifically developed for India while it will take on the likes of Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, Nissan Kicks, Tata Harrier and MG Hector. The launch of the SUV has been pushed to mid 2021 due to Coronavirus pandemic as it was earlier scheduled to hit the Indian shores during the festive season in October-November this year.

Underpinning the MQB A0 IN architecture, it measures 4256mm in length with a wheelbase of 2671mm. As far as the styling goes, Skoda Kosmiq would sport the signature company grille with vertical slats at the front. It will have a sleek dual-pod LED headlamp setup with fog lamps positioned below them. Riding on dual-tone 19-inch alloy wheels, it will also boast of a light strip at the rear. The cabin will get a crystalline assistant at the centre of dashboard along with several premium features such as a flat-bottom three-spoke steering wheel, wireless charing, automatic climate control, panoramic sunroof and a 12.3-inch free-standing touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay & Android Auto.

Skoda Kosmiq will be offered in both petrol and diesel fuel trims with BS6 compliant engines. The petrol variants would draw power from a 1.5L turbocharged TSI engine which will develop 148bhp while the diesel engine is not known yet. There will be a choice of two transmission options: a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed DSG automatic unit. Volkswagen India is also working on the Taigun SUV for India which will share several elements with the Kosmiq but it will be launched a bit earlier than the Skoda SUV. Last year, the VW Group had made Skoda the incharge of the Indian operations by introducing India 2.0 strategy under which a slew of heavily localized products are expected to launch in near future.
