Skoda Auto India has commenced bookings for its upcoming sedan - Rapid 1.0 TSI ahead of its mid-April launch at a token amount of Rs 50,000. The deliveries are expected to begin on April 14, 2020. New Skoda Rapid be competing against the likes of Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Honda City, Volkswagen Vento, Toyota Yaris among others in the Indian market.

Skoda will discontinue the old 1.5-litre motor and will replace it with a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder, turbo-petrol unit that churns out 110 bhp power and 175 Nm torque. This new unit is the same that has been recently introduced in the BS6-spec Polo and Vento. The Rapid 1.0 TSI is expected to be offered with a choice between a manual or a torque converter automatic gearbox.

“The state of the art 1.0 TSI (Turbocharged Stratified Injection) petrol engine, to be introduced with the ŠKODA RAPID, is central to our BS-6 powertrain and fuel strategy - offering an exceptional power output as well as excellent fuel economy. ŠKODA brand loyalists and auto enthusiasts, from across the nation, now have the opportunity to pre-book our latest offerings and secure a priority status,” as commented by Zac Hollis, Brand Director - ŠKODA AUTO India.

2020 Skoda Rapid 1.0 comes with minor cosmetic upgrades. These include features like new LED DRLs, a new boot lid spoiler, and a rear diffuser. The car also gets an updated set of alloy wheels. The BS6 Rapid will also come equipped with a new touchscreen infotainment system.
