Nissan Magnite has continued to make news since its global unveiling on October 22, 2020. The upcoming subcompact SUV holds the key to Nissan’s ambitions in the fast-growing Indian automobile market. The Japanese automaker will finally launch the Magnite in India on November 26, 2020. Ahead of the launch, unofficial bookings have begun at Nissan dealerships in the country between Rs 11,000- 25,000. The production is already underway at the company's manufacturing facility in Oragadam, Chennai. With the Magnite's launch, Nissan will make its presence felt in the highly competitive yet popular sub-4m SUV segment. Nissan Magnite will face off against newly-launched Kia Sonet, Maruti Vitara Brezza, Toyota Urban Cruiser, Tata Nexon and Ford EcoSport in the domestic market. Recently, an image of the Magnite's pricing, shared by Nissan to its dealer partners, surfaced on the internet. The manufacturer will sell the Magnite in a price range of Rs 5.50-8.15 Lakhs (ex-showroom, India). This will undercut its rivals in India, thus giving Nissan a chance to storm its way back into the Indian market.

The Magnite is the first vehicle to roll out under Nissan’s Next strategy built on the idea of 'Make-in-India'. The compact crossover will be exported to other Asian countries like Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Bhutan among others. It will be sold in 4 trims namely XE, XL, XV High and XV Premium with around 20 variants in total. Talking about the SUV in detail, it will be based on the CMF-A+ architecture that underpins a few Renault cars as well in the form of Triber MPV and the upcoming Kiger SUV. At the front, one can see dual-projector LED headlamps and octagonal grille which seems to have been borrowed from Datsun. Furthermore, it comes with L-shaped DRLs, fog lamps and skid plates which are integrated into the front bumper. The rear profile boasts of LED taillamps and a skid plate with ‘MAGNITE’ letters embossed on the tailgate.

The manufacturer has put in a lot of efforts in making the cabin stand out in terms of features. Buyers can look forward to the 7.0-inch digital instrument cluster, leather-wrapped steering wheel and an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Additionally, Nisaan is offering features like wireless charging, LED ambient lights, 360-degree camera, air purifier and  connected car tech. The safety features onboard are dual airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, traction control, hill start assist and ISOFIX child seat mounts among others.

Moving on to the performance, Nissan Magnite will come with two BS6 petrol engines. The 1.0-litre 3-cylinder, naturally aspirated unit will deliver 71 bhp of maximum power output and 96 Nm of peak torque. The powerful 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine will churn out 99 bhp of maximum power output and 160 Nm of peak torque. Both petrol engines will come with a 5-speed manual gearbox. Nissan is also offering a CVT transmission unit with the 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine due to which peak torque gets slightly reduced to 152 Nm.
