MG Motor India and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) have teamed up to increase the EV charging infrastructure in India. Under this new partnership, HPCL and MG will deploy 50kW/60kW DC fast chargers at major cities and highways across the country. This collaboration aims to provide convenience to electric vehicle users by setting up more EV chargers during long journeys.

The new EV chargers will be installed at HPCL petrol pumps, and all MG customers will be able to access these chargers via the MyMG App. These charging networks will be discoverable through the integrated HPCL network discovery tool. In addition, HPCL is planning to deploy 5,000 EV charging stations in India by December 2024. The MG ZS EV and other EVs compatible with the CCS 2 charging standard can be charged through the public-mode network of stations.

MG Motor is currently the second-largest EV maker in India, and the brand has formed partnerships with several service providers to expand its EV charging network across the nation. Interestingly, the company signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Zeon in December 2023. The EV maker has so far deployed over 15,000 private and public chargers across the country in partnership with brands such as Fortum and Tata Power Delta Electronics. MG Motor has announced that EV owners who are going to use these charging stations will receive loyalty rewards.

The Chief Growth Officer of MG Motor India, Gaurav Gupta, said, “The key to a successful transition to electric mobility is a robust EV ecosystem. As an early mover in the EV space, MG has been at the forefront of the development of a strong EV ecosystem. Along with our ecosystem partners, we are working to create a vast network of EV charging stations, in addition to battery recycling & battery second life solutions for end-to-end sustainability of electric vehicles.”

The Chief General Manager (Highway Retailing) at HPCL, Rajdip Ghosh, said, “HPCL has a nationwide network of 22,000 plus Fuel Stations and is committed to a sustainable future by providing green fuel to the customers. Furthermore, HPCL aims to install 5000 electric vehicle charging stations by December 2024."
