Maruti Suzuki has started working on the next-gen Celerio hatchback which is expected to launch by mid 2021 in the Indian market. Being internally codenamed as YNC, it has started testing at the company's production unit. The next-gen Maruti Celerio will come with a fresh exterior while getting several new features and revised cabin. It has further been learnt that the country's biggest automaker has commenced the production of the new hatch while it will rival the likes of Ford Figo, Hyundai Santro and Datsun GO.

Maruti YNC prototype spotted at Maruti's manufacturing facility has suggested substantial cosmetic updates with front fascia entirely revamped. The front grille, headlamp cluster, bumper, and fog lamp units will don a fresh look while being more up-market and striking in appearance. It is being believed that the company might also extend the dimensions of the new-gen model in order to make it even more spacious than the current model. The cabin will also witness upgrades in form of upholstery and features. The top-end variants are expected to come with the SmaprtPlay touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. It will be developed inline with the new crash test norms and pedestrian standards to improve the safety of the occupants.

Mechanically, Maruti YNC (next-gen Celerio) is expected to carry the same BS 6 compliant 1.0L 3-cylinder K10B petrol engine with top power of 67bhp at 6000rpm and peak torque of 90Nm at 3500rpm. The transmission duties are expected to be helmed by the same 5-speed manual and the 5-speed AMT units. Currently, the Celerio is priced in a range of Rs 4.46-5.63 Lakhs while the Celerio X price stands between Rs 4.95-5.72 Lakhs (All prices are Ex. Showroom, Delhi). The hatch has not been performing as per the company expectations of late with YoY sales declining by over 30 percent last year. Maruti managed to sell only 71,000 units of Celerio last year in the domestic market. So, in order to regain lost ground, the company is planning to introduce the new model.
