Indian carmaker Mahindra is all set to launch the Thar Signature Edition. This will be a limited edition version of the on-off road SUV that is to be pulled out from the markets to be replaced by an all-new 2nd generation model. Now, an internal document from Mahindra has revealed all details about this Limited Edition Thar. It is claimed that the company will manufacture 700 units of this SUV. The Thar Signature Edition gets its name from a special plaque with company's owner Anand Mahindra's signature on it. If reports are to be believed, the new car is likely to cost more than Thar CRDE that is available at Rs. 9.5 lakhs in Delhi.
Meanwhile, here is what you will get in the Mahindra Thar Signature Edition.
A new aquamarine blue color borrowed from the Mahindra Marazzo coupled with ABS+EBD for added safety of the passengers. The proud owner of the new vehicle will get a plaque with Anand Mahindra’s signature and new art leather seat covers. There will be decals on the sides and alloy wheels on the SUV will have a new design.
Apart from ABS that is a life-saving feature now mandatory on all cars sold in India, the Mahindra Thar Signature Edition is in no way different from its regular version when it comes to mechanics. The SUV will come with the same 2.5-liter CRDE turbocharged diesel engine that produces 105 Bhp power and 247 Nm torque.
The engine is mated to a five-speed manual gearbox and a four-wheel drive transfer case with low and high ratios. The SUV also retains the rear-wheel drive layout with the part-time four-wheel drive capability and auto locking hubs on the front wheels. The new Thar will hold 8 passengers and have two captain seats at front and two side-facing bench seats at the rear.
As you might know, the lower-priced DI variants of the SUV have been discontinued and the CRDe version will also be pulled out of the market in the coming months as new government regulations come into effect. Mahindra has started testing the new Thar that is likely to be unveiled at the 2020 Auto Expo. It will be available to buyers from April 2020 and is expected to cost more than the outgoing model. The 2nd generation Mahindra Thar will get several improvements including a plusher cabin, sound damping, better ride quality, and a factory fitted hard top option. It will also get a new and more powerful 2 liter-4 cylinder turbo diesel engine and a 6-speed manual gearbox. A four-wheel drive system will be standard.
The popular Thar 3-door model was also set for auction back in 2020. ...
