  • The next-gen Thar falls in the price range of Rs 12.10-12.79 Lakhs (ex-showroom).
  • 2020 Mahindra Thar has received a 4-star safety rating from the Global NCAP.

The all-new Mahindra Thar has been a great hit since its launch in October 2020. The off-roader has received over 50000 bookings to date. Furthermore, it has received a good market response. At present, 25 percent of buyers have opted for the petrol variants. The automatic variant, on the other hand, is also in good demand. In order to reduce the waiting period and to meet the customer demand, the company has fast-tracked the process of increasing the production capacity both at its Nasik facility and at the suppliers end.

Mahindra Thar was launched at a starting price of Rs 9.80 lakhs (ex-showroom). Initially, the SUV was offered in two trims - AX and LX. The automaker discontinued the base AX trim. At present, the next-gen Thar is available in AX(O) and LX variants. Talking about the price, it starts at Rs 12.10 lakhs (ex-showroom) for AX(O) trim and goes as high as Rs 12.79 lakhs (ex-showroom) for the LX trim.

“We are overwhelmed with this unprecedented response that the all-new Thar has garnered; it has, in fact, surpassed all our expectations.  The wait for the all-new Thar has been longer than expected and we sincerely appreciate our customers’ patience and unwavering confidence in us while we are working with our suppliers to ramp up production in these challenging times,” as commented by Veejay Nakra, CEO – Automotive Division, Mahindra & Mahindra.

The 2020 Mahindra Thar houses two engines under the bonnet. The 2.0-litre mStallion TGDi petrol unit generates a maximum power of 150 bhp and a peak torque of 350 Nm while the 2.2-litre mHawk diesel motor produces 130 bhp power and 320 Nm peak torque. Both engines can be availed with a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.
