Kawasaki Motorcycles has just launched the BS6 Kawasaki Z650 in the Indian market at a price of Rs 5.94 lakhs (ex-showroom), India. The Kawasaki Z650 now comes with a BS6 compliant engine. The Japanese motorcycle firm had already initiated bookings for the Z650 in the first week of May and now has officially launched in India. BS6 Z650 is only Rs 25,000 more expensive than the outgoing BS4 version which is surprising considering that there is an addition of a new BS6 engine with functional as well as cosmetic updates.

If we talk about the design updates on BS6 Kawasaki Z650, LED Headlamp is far sharper, angular tank shroud, revamped tail light are its key highlights. The BS6 Z650 comes packed with a new 4.3-inch TFT instrument console with Bluetooth Connectivity and compatibility with the new Kawasaki Rideology app. The motorcycle gets the new Dunlop Sportsmax Roadsport 2 tyres. BS6 Kawasaki Z650 is offered in just one colour scheme- Metalic Spark Blue.

Performance-wise, the BS6 Kawasaki Z650 is powered by the old 649cc parallel-twin, liquid-cooled engine found in the older BS4  model, the difference is the upgradation to compliance with the new BS6 Norms. The BS6 engine delivers 67 bhp of maximum power @ 8,000 rpm and 64 Nm of peak torque @ 6,700 rpm. The engine is coupled to a six-speed gearbox. The BS6 model is 3 kilograms lighter than the older BS4 model which is surprising given the updates. Other mechanical components remain the same as the BS4 model with the suspension system including 41mm telescopic forks upfront front and preload-adjustable mono-shock at the rear.

The BS6 Kawasaki Z650 main competition in the Indian market is with Benelli TNT 600i in the middleweight motorcycle segment. Currently, no other competitors are there but rumours of Honda launching a product in the segment could make it interesting. Bookings are available at the dealerships as well as on their official website.
