Royal Enfield is a name taken with respect and awe in the motorcycle world. It is the oldest motorcycle brand in the world with the Bullet enjoying the longest production model so far. Royal Enfield motorcycles are simply not a machine, they are an emotion in itself. It’s one of the favourite bikes for modifications as everyone loves to find the optimum balance between design and performance. It’s not an easy task, given some of the Royal Enfield modifications have looked bizarre in past while some custom works were hailed as world-class.
The 650 twins are becoming a fan favourite of the customized motorcycle lovers. It’s hard to do a mistake in customizing the 650 while the single-cylinder Bullet 350 and 500 doesn’t give the power as expected with the modern-day machines. The 650 twins and Bullet series are often the go-to bikes in terms of customizations with the Himalayan often ignored. Bucking the trend is an Indonesian Architect named Julian Palapa. He built a tracker over the Royal Enfield Himalayan chassis. Taking a path that no one took earlier, Julian Palapa brought his architecture background into work and did a stunning job. The customized Himalayan is called “0.2 View” and it is going to be an eye-catching sight on the Jakarta road.
Julian is no stranger to the world of design as he is the founder of Hello Kilau architecture firm. He enrolled himself for the competition organized by PT Distributor Motor Indonesia (DMI). The winner takes home a brand-new Himalayan and a chance to showcase customized bike for the Indonesian show circuit. Julian didn’t strip down the bike to the bare essentials, instead he opted for a neo-retro theme.
The ‘.02View’ is a major departure from the Himalayan motorcycle in terms of styling. The customized bike comes with a lower ride height (-40mm) and wheelbase (-80mm). Julian and his team gave focus on three components - structure, function and aesthetics. A nice combination of black, grey and yellow colour can be seen.
With a neat blend of matte grey, yellow and black shades, the LED headlamp assembly, fuel tank and floating seat configuration give a refreshing look. The suspension system is upgraded to Showa USD forks and Ohlins mono-shock. Front stock brakes are Nissan four-piston twin discs and Brembo two-single disc at the rear.
Julian being an architect has done a tremendous amount of hard work in conceptualizing Royal Enfield in his own vision. The effort is visible in the end-product that has impressed the motorcycle community.
