All-Electric BMW i4 Launched at Rs 69.90 Lakhs

BMW launched its first electric mid-size sedan i4 at the introductory price of Rs 69.90 lakhs (ex-showroom) in India. The bookings for the vehicle have commenced. Interested buyers can get the booking done via the online website shop.bmw.in. The deliveries of the i4 are slated to begin in July this year. BMW i4 is offered in a single eDrive40 variant. The vehicle further comes with a plethora of convenience and safety features. 


Design-wise, the electric BMW i4 gets a similar look as its ICE-powered counterpart. However, it also gets subtle updates. Upfront, it features a closed-off kidney grille. In addition, the i4 gets a blue ring around the BMW badge and BMW iconic LED headlights. On the side, the car features doors with frameless windows, fluid lines of the roof and short overhangs, and a long wheelbase. The rear end of the sedan boasts of L-shaped rear LED lights with slender contours and horizontal lines. The air suspension on the rear axle with an automatic self-leveling function ensures maximum comfort and enhances stability on sharp turns. Other design bits include a large tailgate with an automatic opening function and 470-litre luggage compartment. The rear bench seat folds down with a 40/20/40 split thereby increasing the boot capacity to up to 1290 litres. Talking about the exterior color options, the BMW i4 is offered Black Sapphire, Skyscraper Grey, and Mineral White.

The cabin of the BMW i4 retains the layout and dashboard of the regular 4 Series coupe. However, it misses a few features like a free centre console area. Furthermore, the electric sedan features a curved twin-screen setup that houses a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system. In addition, the vehicle gets the latest BMW’s latest iDrive 8 user interface that supports over-the-air updates and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay functionality. Other feature highlights include three-zone automatic climate control, a sunroof, a 17-speaker Harman Kardon surround sound system, LED ambient lighting, and reverse parking assist with a camera.


Performance-wise, the BMW i4 is equipped with an 83.9 kWh battery capacity that churns out a top power of 339 bhp and a peak torque of 430 Nm. The vehicle can further accelerate from 0-100 kmph in 5.7 seconds. The BMW i4 comes with three charging options. Having said that, the electric mid-size sedan can be fully charged in about 8.25 hours with the help of an 11 kW AC charger. While the 50 kW DC charger can charge the battery from 10-80 percent in 83 minutes. The 205 kW DC charger, on the other hand, can charge the vehicle from 010-80 percent in 31 minutes. Moving on, the BMW i4 comes with a complimentary BMW Wallbox charger with installation as a part of the introductory offer. One can integrate it at home for safe and convenient charging up to 11kW.
