Mahindra & Mahindra is expected to roll out the all-new Thar in the next few months in the Indian market. The spy-shots of the 2020 Mahindra Thar have been hitting the internet for almost a year now. The SUV was once again spotted testing ahead of its official launch. The coronavirus crisis has brought the automotive industry to a standstill by temporarily suspending the operations and closure of dealerships. But as India enters the third stage of COVID’19 lockdown, state governments have started allowing factories to function in controlled environments and limited shifts without breaking the social distancing protocols.
According to the spy shots, the 2020 Mahindra Thar will get an aggressive look due to the generation change. The front fascia will feature a wide and flat bonnet with round-shaped headlamps. The rear end gets the brick-shaped tail lights. The latest spy shots also revealed that the SUV will feature front bumper located fog-lamps. At the side, the SUV gets 18-inch black-painted alloy wheels. It will be offered in both soft-roof and hard-roof configuration. While its final appearance is yet to be revealed, overall the all-new Thar seems to connect to its original design.
As for interior features, the 2020 Thar is expected to get some major changes. The cabin of the new Mahindra Thar SUV is expected to boast of a new upholstery with premium seats. Other highlights would include a touchscreen infotainment system in the top-end trim and auto climate control. In terms of safety equipment, the SUV is likely to get dual front airbags, rear parking sensors, speed alert systems among many others. The most major update is seen in the form of front-facing rear seats in place of row seats. This set-up will provide more space and safety for the passengers at the back.
Under the hood, the all-new Mahindra Thar will have a new BS-6 compliant 2.0-litre mStallion petrol engine that will produce 187 bhp power and 380 Nm torque. The engine will comprise of Direct Injection and Turbo Charging technologies while It will be linked with a 6-speed manual transmission as standard. There will also be an automatic gearbox as optional. The Thar will also get a 2.2-litre diesel engine producing 138 bhp of power output mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox with an automatic transmission as an option. A four-wheel-drive system is also expected to be on the cards.
