Mahindra XUV300

Earlier this year, Mahindra launched its first sub-4-meter SUV in the form of the XUV300. Based on the SsangYong Tivoli, the XUV300 has become a decent hit with the buyers and is among the safest vehicles in its segment. Ever since its launch, word has been out that Mahindra is working on the electric version of the XUV300 and the vehicle was also spotted testing a couple of months back. Now, we can tell you that the XUV300 electric will have an official range of 300 km. This detail came into light when Mahindra Italia revealed the updated versions of the KUV100 and the XUV500 in Italy.

As seen in this image, the XUV300 Electric in the center has 300 km range written under it. Moreover, paying more attention to the image above reveals that Mahindra also plans to launch a 7-seater SUV in the European market by 2022 which would probably be based on the long-wheelbase SsangYong Tivoli. An SUV codenamed W601 can also be seen in the last part of the image. This SUV will be based on the next-generation XUV500 and be built under the partnership between Ford and Mahindra.

Coming back to the Mahindra XUV300 Electric, Pawan Goenka, Managing Director Mahindra, has earlier said in a statement that this SUV could have a range of up to 400 km. He said in a statement made on February that the XUV300 Electric will have 380 volts battery with a 200 km range and there will be an option to increase the range up to 350-400 km. What this essentially means that the manufacturer planned to launch two versions of the XUV300 electric with varying battery capacity.

However, this image from Mahindra Italia confirms in a way that at least one version of the XUV300 Electric will boast a range of up to 300 km. This means that the vehicle will be pretty much practical when it comes to the Indian conditions where the biggest issue with EVs is their range and the lack of infrastructure. Earlier reports suggest that the batteries on the car will be coordinated in with the collaboration of Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd and LG Chem’s. The latter will develop a unique cell specially designed for the car and will also supply Lithium-ion cells based on nickel manganese cobalt chemistry with high energy density. The design and most of the features on the XUV300 Electric are likely to be the same as the regular version of the sub-4-meter SUV.
