  • Indian government has pledged to go all-electric by 2030

The Government of India (GoI) has pledged to make the country all-electric by 2030, which is merely a decade away from now. Though, the leading automakers have already pulled up their socks in accordance with the government policies by starting work on a range of new electric vehicles. The two-wheeler EV revolution has been building up for quite some time in India and we have seen plenty of electric bikes and scooters hitting the roads. However, as far as four-wheelers are concerned, there is still a long way to go but we can expect several new electric cars and SUVs in the coming months in the Indian market. Today is World EV Day and it calls for a comprehensive list of electric cars and SUVs launching in the Indian market in near future.

Tata Altroz Electric

Tata Altroz electric had its world premiere at the 2019 Geneva Auto Show while its Indian premiere was held at the 2020 Auto Expo in February. The company has distinguished it from the regular Altroz hatchback by equipping it with tweaked bumpers and new alloy wheels. The cabin is identical to the standard model of Altroz. Coming loaded with Tata's Ziptron powertrain, it will have a driving range of 250-300 kms. It will be launched in early 2021 in the Indian market.

Maruti Wagon R Electric

Maruti Suzuki is all set to introduce its first all-electric vehicle in the Indian market in the form of Wagon R EV. It has been spotted many times in Gurgaon doing test runs. Maruti Wagon R EV was originally scheduled to launch in the second half of 2020 but it has been now postponed to the second half of 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Being speculated to have a driving range of 200+ kms, the Wagon R electric price in India is believed to be around Rs 11 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom).

Mahindra eXUV300

Being unveiled at the 2020 Auto Expo in February, Mahindra eXUV300 is expected to launch in the second half of 2021. Cosmetically, it will be different than the standard XUV300 due to the inclusion of a bigger infotainment system and a new instrument console. Mahindra XUV300 electric is expected to come with a driving range of 300+ kilometers while it could be priced at around Rs 17 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom).

Mercedes Benz EQC

The German luxury automaker's first all-electric SUV is just a few weeks away from its launch in India. Yeah, we are talking about Mercedes EQC which comes with a driving range of 400+ kilometers while having top power and peak torque of 403bhp and 765Nm. The SUV will do a 0-100kmph sprint of 5.1 seconds while it takes nearly 40 minutes to charge it upto 80 percent from zilch through the DC charger. Mercedes EQC price is expected to be around Rs 70 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom)

Jaguar I-PACE

The British luxury automaker had listed the all-electric I PACE at its Indian website in January 2020 and it was expected to launch by the end of this year. However, the company might realign its plans, given the deadly COVID-19 pandemic. Speaking about Jaguar I-PACE, it will have a driving range of 480+ kilometers while the 0-80 percent charge can be achieved in just 40 minutes through a DC charger. The expected price is Rs 1 Crore (Ex. Showroom) in India.
