  • The Virtus sedan replaced the older Vento car in Volkswagen’s portfolio in 2022.

Volkswagen India has announced that all variants of the Taigun and Virtus will now come equipped with six airbags as standard. In the last few years, the Indian automotive sector has witnessed a huge demand for advanced safety-feature-packed cars. Getting along with the ongoing trend, Volkswagen is now offering an advanced safety kit with the Taigun SUV and Virtus sedan.

Volkswagen’s current line-up incorporates the Virtus, Taigun, and Tiguan, followed by all-electric ID.4. The brand’s new move aligns with the government’s initiative to increase the safety quotient of vehicles in India. Recently, the company has also acquired a significant sales milestone in the country. VW has sold over 1 lakh India 2.0 cars in the country so far, out of which the Taigun accounted for 61 percent of this milestone. Moreover, 40 percent of customers preferred the GT models.

The Volkswagen Taigun SUV and Virtus sedan are based on the company’s MQB-A0-IN platform, and both cars have already bagged a five-star rating in the Global NCAP safety crash tests for adult and child occupant protection. In the crash tests, the body shells of these models were found to be stable and capable of handling higher loads. Other safety features in the Taigun and Virtus include a seatbelt reminder system, ABS with EBD, seatbelt pretensioners along with load limiters, ESC, and rear parking sensors.

Commenting on the recent development, the Brand Director of Volkswagen Passenger Cars India, Ashish Gupta, said, “Today, we take great pride in announcing our portfolio of India 2.0 cars offering 6 airbags as standard across the line-up. With this, not only are we showcasing our commitment towards safer mobility but also reaffirming our core belief of safety being a key product pillar for Volkswagen India. We are also delighted to have achieved the over 1 lakh sales milestone by Taigun and Virtus. We are grateful to our customers and will continue to offer aspirational, premium and competitive product offerings for the market.”

VW launched the Taigun SUV in India in 2021 as its first compact sports utility vehicle for the domestic market. The Virtus sedan, on the other hand, replaced the older Vento car in Volkswagen’s portfolio in 2022. The brand has also launched several special editions of these models in India. Recently, Volkswagen rolled out two new trims of the Taigun: the GT Line and the GT Plus Sport.

In the Indian market, the Taigun rivals the likes of the Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, Maruti Grand Vitara, Honda Elevate, and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder. On the other hand, the Virtus honks horns with the Honda City, Hyundai Verna, and Maruti Ciaz.
