News Highlights

  • Tata Tiago and Tigor CNG variants likely to be launched later this year.
  • The CNG-powered Tiago and Tigor will be based on their facelifted versions.
  • Tiago and Tigor CNG trim to get the same engine as their petrol-powered counterparts.

Tata Motors is planning to introduce CNG versions of its popular hatchback Tiago and sedan Tigor later this year in the country. Recently, test mules of Tata Tiago CNG and Tata Tigor CNG were captured on camera at a filling station near Lonavala. Spy shots of the same have been leaked online.

From the spy images, we could see that the CNG variants were fully draped in camouflage. However, a closer look at the images further reveals that both the test mules will be based on their respective facelifted versions. Thus, it is likely that there will be no changes made in terms of dimensions or on the front fascia. The Tata Tiago CNG model as seen in the images is probably the mid-trim variant as it is seen featuring new multi-spoke alloy wheels while the Tigor CNG is a lower trim as the prototype is seen with steel rims.

Besides these, both models will continue to get a tri-arrow theme on the front grille. In addition, the CNG variants will feature projector headlamps with LED DRLs, fog lamps, LED high mount stop lamps, shark fin antenna, and LED tail-lights. Talking about the interior features, not many details have been revealed yet. However, we can expect the cabin to remain identical to the standard models.

Performance-wise, the CNG variants are likely to retain the powertrain options from their petrol-powered counterparts. Both Tiago and Tigor come with a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine that churns out a maximum power of 85 bhp and a peak torque of 113 Nm. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT unit. Talking about the CNG variants, we can expect the peak output to drop slightly. In this case, the transmission option will include a 5-speed manual unit only.
