Porsche has launched the 718 twins - Spyder and Cayman GT4 - in the Indian market. The German luxury automaker currently retails the Boxster and Cayman variants in the 718 lineup in India. The newly launched Spyder and Cayman GT4 are swifter and more powerful than the Boxster and Cayman models in India. The exciting bit is that the company is offering manual transmission with the 2020 Spyder and Cayman GT4 for the Indian buyers. In June 2019, it unveiled the 2020 718 Spyder and 718 Cayman GT4 internationally. Both the 718 Spyder and Cayman GT4 house the mighty 4.0-litre, six-cylinder naturally aspirated engine. The engine belts out a massive 420bhp of maximum power and 420Nm of peak torque. The engine is mated to a six-speed manual transmission. The addition of the manual unit would appeal significantly to the automobile enthusiasts who love the manual gearbox. Porsche cars are known for their lightning speed on the roads and the Spyder and Cayman GT4 doesn’t disappoint either. The 2020 Cayman GT4 clocks the maximum speed of 304 kmph and the 718 Spyder top speed is gauged at 301 kmph. Talking about the acceleration, both the models can go from 0-100 kmph in an unbelievable 4.4 seconds.
The brand claims 2020 Spyder and Cayman GT4 are the most influential models of the 718 series. Innovation is the running theme in Porsche models with the Cayman GT4 producing 50 per cent more downforce. The increase in downforce is due to the addition of a new rear wing and diffuser. Weight increases when the manufacturer transforms a vehicle into a drop-top convertible one but 718 Spyder is pretty lightweight. The 718 Spyder deploys the rear wing whenever the car crosses 120 kmph. The rear wing deployment is useful in pushing the 718 spyder rear axle into the ground for giving more traction as it swerves around the corner.
Other key technological highlights include the Porsche Active Suspension Management damping system for lowering the ride height by 30mm. The ride height reduction is pretty useful in achieving the best performance on the race tracks. Porsche has also equipped the Spyder and Cayman GT4 with Porsche Stability Management (PSM) and Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV) systems. It has equipped the 718 duo with Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB) as an optional feature. Porsche 911 base model is retailed at Rs 1.60 crore, which is in the same range of pricing as the newly launched 718 twins - Spyder and Cayman GT4. Both these newly launched models offer enthusiasts in India an opportunity of owning a classic manual gearbox sports car which would be cheaper than a manual 911 Porsche. Also, the twins models are powered by the most powerful engine in the 718 line-up.
