Stricter BS6 Emission norms will be enforced from 1st April 2020 in India for regulating the toxic air pollution caused by vehicles. Automobile companies are actively launching BS6 compliant vehicles while offering heavy discounts on unsold BS4 vehicles. Nissan India is offering discounts on selected BS4 models to clear their unsold inventory before the sale and purchase of BS4 becomes illegal post 1st April 2020. The company through its dealerships is selling out unsold BS4 vehicles but to the surprise of many, haven’t launched any BS6 compliant models in India so far.

The BS4 compliant Redi-Go is available at authorized dealerships with discounts of more than Rs. 1 lakh while the facelifted Redi-Go was spied recently testing on Indian roads. We can expect the facelifted Redi-Go to come with new design updates along with a new BS6 engine. One of the biggest news of 2020 is the expected arrival of a new compact SUV from Nissan dubbed “Magnite”. Nissan India had earlier registered the Magnite trademark for its upcoming vehicle, with the Controller General of Patents Design and Trademarks under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. The patent was filed in February 2020 and the vehicle would mostly be aimed to get a foothold in the volume churner compact SUV segment.

Nissan Details

Nissan Magnite body length will be less than 4 metres and will share its underpinnings with the Renault Triber, based on CMF-A+ platform. Revealed images on Nissan website tell us a lot about the vehicle such as the side profile appears classy with roof rails and C-pillar design, while the rear end comes with a horizontal tail lamp cluster and a spoiler.

Nissan is expected to offer the Magnite with two engine options. In its case, both will be 3 cylinder 1.0- litre turbocharged petrol units but producing different power output and torque. One engine choice could be HR10DDT churning out 117 hp with a peak torque of 180 Nm. Another option for BS6 compliant Magnite would be the HR10DET producing power up to 100 hp and 152 Nm of torque.

The possibility of the Magnite Compact SUV launch in India could be in the mid or the last quarter of 2020.
