Jeep is all set to reveal the name of its upcoming 7-seater SUV on April 4, 2021. It will have its world premiere later on while a tentative launch can take place by the end of 2021 or early 2022 in the Indian market. However, ahead of the official name revealing event, we have learnt that the all-new Jeep 7-seater SUV will be christened as 'Patriot'. Being earlier codenamed as 'H6', Jeep Patriot will share several elements with the Compass such as architecture, features and engine options.
Jeep Patriot will be at loggerheads with the likes of Tata Safari, Mahindra XUV500, MG Hector Plus and the yet-to-be-launched Hyundai Alcazar in the Indian market. The SUV will be locally manufactured at Jeep's Ranjangaon facility alongside the Compass. As per various media reports, Jeep had trademarked several names for the H6 like Grand Compass and Compass L, but it finally zeroed down on Patriot. It will be positioned between the Compass and Wrangler in Jeep India's portfolio. The moniker 'Patriot' is not new as the company used to retail a SUV named Patriot in several global markets between 2007 and 2016. The new SUV is expected to get a plethora of high-end comfort and safety features as standard.
Jeep Patriot will have an extended wheelbase besides the increase in length to accommodate the third row of seats. It will have a new design which will be partially inspired by the Compass. The interior elements will also be borrowed from the Compass. Though, the Patriot will have a new dashboard layout and bigger 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with connected car technology. Mechanically, it will be powered by the same 2.0L turbo diesel engine as the Compass, albeit with higher power output and torque performance. The transmission duties are expected to be helmed by 6-speed manual and 9-speed automatic units. The company might also offer a 4x4 drive system with the SUV.
