Mahindra Bolero is one of the top-selling models since its launch at the turn of the millennium in 2000. The SUV takes inspiration from Mahindra Armada Grand with the latest model complying to new stringent BS6 Emission norms. The Indian automaker has raised a notch further with an interesting modification based on the Bolero SUV. Thanks to our friends at Rushlane, we got access to images of a rescue vehicle based on the pick-up truck Bolero Camper.

There are a number of pick-up vehicles based on the Bolero sold in the Indian market but this one is a bit different. From the images, one can easily observe that the modified unit comes with a twin-cabin layout indicating that the stock vehicle used for this transformation is the Bolero Camper. The manufacturer has added new pieces of equipment to the modified vehicle in order make it suitable for rescue purposes.

Up front one can spot a blacked-out bumper housing grab-rails and a five-tonne winch. Further, the sidesteps are integrated with the frame coming from the bumper at the front.  Addition of a snorkel on the side gives the rescue vehicle wading ability in case it has to enter the water. Its roof-top rack is equipped with a public announcement system, blinker and a 50 watts LED light for searching objects. The important aspect to note is that the LED searchlight can turn a whole 360 degrees with the help of remote control. There is a rubber boot on the roof in the event if the vehicle has to encounter flooding. The rescue vehicle rides on the 16-inch steel rims well suited for off-roading.

The interior of the modified Balero features a host of life-saving tools like drinking water, helmets, fire extinguisher, reflectorized vest among others. A rescue vehicle has to undertake tough missions during disasters so the manufacturer has added a disaster management kit. It contains standard elements like a flashlight, hack saw, fuel containers, first aid kit and a air pump for an inflatable rubber boat. Other standard items on-board this special edition Mahindra Bolero include traffic cones, hydraulic jack, spare wheel among many more. A ‘RESCUE UNIT’ monikar is embossed at the rear in striking red while the Mahindra name is painted on the side profile.

Powertrain options will remain the same as offered on the standard Bolero Camper. Thus a 2.5-litre 4-cylinder diesel engine churning out 75 bhp of maximum power output and 200 Nm of peak torque will make its presence felt here. Transmission duties will be taken care by a 5-speed manual gearbox with the option of a 4 wheel drive system. Not much is known about the price of this modified Mahindra Balero rescue vehicle but in the coming days we expect some update from the automaker.
