Jeep Compass

US car manufacturer Jeep made a foray in India three years ago but it was with the launch of Compass SUV that the company hit the ground running. This car touched new heights of popularity in India and even challenged the famed Mahindra XUV500 in the beginning. At present, the American SUV is facing stiff competition from new Tata Harrier. Interestingly, both cars feature the same Fiat diesel engine. Despite this, what is surprising is that Jeep Compass manages to outperform Tata Harrier in certain ways. We bring you a list of five such stunts that you can pull off with Compass but not the Tata Harrier.

Off-Road Adventure

As you all know, the new Tata Harrier gets a specifically-developed terrain response system for off-roading enthusiasts. However, a major drawback with this car is absence of a 4-wheel drive system. This is where its rival Jeep Compass steals the show. Though it lacks a low-ratio transfer case, Compass comes equipped with a Harrier-like terrain management system and 4WD. These change the way this SUV behaves on bad surface. Jeep Compass can overcome serious off-roading challenges such as axle breaker, tyre trapper, chicken holes, and come out unscathed.

Automatic Transmission

When it comes to jam-packed Indian roads, automatic transmission is nothing less than a boon. Such is the popularity of this feature that almost all car manufacturers are now providing this feature. Well, when we say almost all, it does not include the new Tata Harrier. The Harrier comes with only manual transmission. With Tata Harrier, you get a 6-speed manual transmission mated to 2.0-litre Multijet diesel engine. Meanwhile, Jeep Compass comes with dual-clutch automatic transmission with 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol model. It has been reported that Jeep soon plans to launch a 9-speed dual clutch automatic transmission with diesel engine option when this American brand launches Jeep TrailHawk.

Sunroof

Sunroofs have become extremely popular among Indians these days despite extreme climate conditions and high pollution levels. While we all know that Tata Harrier does not come with a sunroof yet, Jeep made a change to its Compass SUV seeing the growing demand. Yes, the new variant of Jeep Compass comes equipped with a panoramic sunroof. The car now gets a premium-looking full glass roof and a retractable blind that reveals the whole roof.

Driving in Snowy Terrains

We all know what the favorite destination of every auto enthusiast in India is. The snow-covered terrain of Ladakh is where Indians go to beat the summer heat. While 2WD vehicles such as Tata Harrier can help you to some extent in snow, 4X4 vehicles such as Jeep Compass allow you to enjoy the snowy terrains the most. And as for the missing low-ratio transfer case, the wait will soon be over for enthusiasts as Jeep plans to launch Compass TrailHawk in India in the coming months.

Ease of Access

The 4WD Jeep Compass can help you reach even the most inaccessible and inhospitable regions in the world. While Tata Harrier with 2WD can be of some use, it is never enough for the car to take on extreme surfaces.
