Hyundai Santro was brought back to life by the South Korean brand at the end of 2018. Now the sales figures for 6 months for the hatchback are in and the news for the company is good. In less than 6 months of being launched, the entry level Hyundai Santro has managed to amass 50,000 units in sales. Hyundai Santro locks horns with Maruti Alto K10, Renault Kwid, Tata Tiago and Maruti WagonR in the Indian market. After launching the entry level hatchback Santro in India, the South Korean maker went ahead and discontinued the erstwhile entry level offering from the brand Eon in India. If the monthly units are to be seen, the Hyundai Santro has been averaging nearly 8,000 units a month, which is a healthy figure.
At the launch event, Hyundai had stated that the Santro was being launched at an introductory price of Rs. 3.9 lakhs, ex-showroom Delhi. Looking at the slowdown that the auto industry is currently facing, Hyundai may not hike up the price of Santro hatchback by half a lakh rupees, as it had earlier said. Not to mention that instead of hiking up the prices, the South Korean maker is already running a discount scheme on their entry level hatchback Santro, wherein the customers are being given a gold coin and a Rs. 20,000 exchange bonus on every purchase.
Talking about the mechanicals of the Hyundai Santro, the company has equipped their entry level hatchback with a 1.1L 4-cylinder petrol engine rated to deliver 68 Bhp and 101 Nm. There is also a CNG-petrol version on offer that comes with the same engine albeit with an output of 58 Bhp and 84 Nm. There is no diesel engine on offer with the Hyundai Santro hatchback. The petrol engine comes with the option of a 5 speed manual gearbox or and AMT automatic transmission whereas the CNG dual fuel variant comes only with a 5 speed manual gearbox. The South Korean maker may also offer the Santro with a LPG-petrol dual fuel option some time in the future.
As far as the features on offer are concerned, just like its other offerings, Hyundai has cut no corners here and has equipped the Santro with a touchscreen infotainment system supporting Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The car follows the BNVSAP norms and offers airbags, ABS+EBD, reverse parking sensors, ISOFIX child seat mounts, speed alerts and seat belt reminder as standard safety features. It actually was the first generation of Santro that propelled Hyundai to success in India and helped the South Korean brand reach the level it finds itself in the Indian market today.
