The new-gen Mahindra Thar launch on 2nd October 2020 is stirring up the Indian automobile market. Mahindra Thar’s biggest rival in India is Force Gurkha. Seeking to steal the thunder from Thar, Force Motors is reportedly planning to launch the 2020 BS6 Gurkha by the third quarter of this year. BS6 Force Gurkha was unveiled at the Auto Expo 2020 earlier this year in February. It would have arrived in the market by now but the COVID-19 pandemic delayed it. Force Motors recently released a teaser image of the production-ready 2020 Gurkha BS on its Facebook page. The image came with the caption ‘Coming Soon’ giving us an indication that BS6 model would arrive around the same time as Thar would.
The Indian manufacturer hasn’t yet revealed the price but the new models are already being dispatched to the authorised dealerships across the country. This festive season, Indian consumers would be spoilt for options with both BS6 Force Gurkha and 2020 Mahindra Thar coming around the same time. Force Gurkha is more pitched towards the hardcore automobile enthusiasts who love the off-roading campaigns. 2020 Mahindra Thar will appeal towards a diverse range of buyers.
The released image of the production-ready SUV is pretty similar in terms of styling to the model unveiled at the Auto Expo earlier this year. The imposing SUV will come with fender mounted-indicators, round LED day time running lights (DRLs), single-slat front grille, redesigned front and rear bumpers. 17-inch alloy wheels, knobby tyres and a roof-mounted luggage carrier as standard. The interior will sport plenty of new changes like the dual-tone dashboard, larger touchscreen infotainment system and power windows.
In terms of performance figures, the BS6 Force Gurkha will house a 2.6-litre diesel engine. The new BS6 compliant engine will deliver 89 bhp of maximum power output and 260 Nm of peak torque. Transmission duties will be taken care of by a five-speed manual gearbox. Force motors might well be throwing in a 4X4 drive system to give more off-roading capacities to the SUV. Talking about safety features on-board, dual front airbags and ABS are expected to come.
